I've been looking for pure ammonia, fragrance and dye free. I can't seem to find anything of the sort. I've found lemon scented ammonia, is that ok?

Other suggestions?

The only store that ive found that carries pure ammonia is Ace Hardware. Their store brand is pure, no dyes or additives. Best way to tell if it has additives is shake it. If it foams, dont use it. Ive cycled several tanks with Ace Hardwares stuff.

If ur not in a drastic hurry to get the second tank runnin why not start by cycling the new filtration on your current tank. Mean while start filling the new tank with water you where going to discard from your old tank anyway. after it's at a decent level switch the new filter over to the new tank and check your readings (cycle your filter for a month prior to switching it). I'd be surprised if they wheren't perfect for adding fish or close to it. i have used this method for instant cycling a quarentine tank several times when I need to separate or impulse buy new fish it's like an instant cycling cuz ur using established water and media just monitor the temp. And you should be fine No need to buy chems. And spend butt loads of $$$ it's simple

Except that water isn't cycled. You're just putting water with nitrates into the new tank. So yeah, the OP should put an extra filter in the current tank to get a bacterial colony growing on it, and just leave it there, and when they need to set up the new tank it will most likely have enough bacteria for the new fish (only introduce a few at a time). No point in putting old water in the new tank though.
