How to set up saltwater tank? Help needed.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A bio pallet reacter will keep your nitrates down,I had up to 80ppm and now down to 20ppm , I feed my fish all I went and nitrates will not go up,I have a tank that is 125 with fish & coral and do weekly water change about 25 gallons

That is effort lol. Yeah, I'll see if I can find one of these down my LFS. Thanks

So a pair of clowns? Would that be the max I could stock (of fish)?

Also, do your clowns breed?

A pair of clowns is really pushing it in a 10 gal (50l) tank esp. when you displace a third of the water with LR appox. 3 1/2 gal ( 18L) probably better off just doing a damsel or 2 or a Goby/Shrimp combo. Lighting is irrelavent with fish only can be a simple flourecent fixture.

20ppm is okay for fish - 80ppm is dangerous long term for fish but 20 ppm is dangerous for corals - should be around 5ppm. Nitrates may be stable at the moment thanx to chemical help but they do have a way of coming back with a vengence as the organic carbon builds as unused portions of the food dissolve.

My clowns do not breed. But they've only been together a couple of months. And my male is really young, while my female is a couple years old. She's the surviving half of a mated pair a friend had. I hope they breed. That would be super cool.

First get a suitable size tank for your fish. I've ordered from marcorocks.com for mine. $ 2 per pound of dryrock. Just remember when ordering dry rock for your tank make sure you clean the rocks in a separate bucket for a few days throw air stone to circulate . I have a maroon along with 3 damsels in 37 gal moving to 75 gal.

Well I've found a 130 litre red sea max 130. (just tank, no cabinet and no lid). But comes with filter, heater, skimmer, etc. that's about £60 which is $93 I believe.. Is that worth it?
