how to setup a good denisonii barb tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Another thread was started not long ago about the ridiculous idea of keeping dennisons in a 24x12x12 by a someone who goes by the name "gmwJOY", real name, joy banerjee!

Then you get this thread, again about dennisons, from a sudipta banerjee! Both from India.

Are they the same person? Are they brothers who fancy themselves as a couple of comedians? If it's the latter they are about as funny as the aftermath of a dodgy prawn vindaloo!!

Mine were raised in the tank below. They grew up with a group of SAEs with which they get on really well and school together, also with my clown loaches, some corys, kuhli loaches and harlequin rasboras. Generally the lot gets on really well together, specifically the clowns, denison barbs and SAEs as they are all similarly active fish.

I prefer sand substrate but for denison barbs it doesn't seem to matter as they don't eat at the bottom, or rarely. They sleep at night so I wouldn't put hyper active or predatory night fish with them. The barbs are otherwise extremely active...constantly on the go....,greedy feeders and would do well with likewise fish.
Mine were fed only NLS pellets for the most part. Temperature is 26C because of the clown loaches, which I believe is on the higher end for denison barbs but my tank has large surface area, is open top, and is very well oxygenated, which is the key keeping fish that require cooler water/higher oxygen content.

You do need a relatively large tank. They'll grow big and they need the space due to their activity level. They just won't grow or look to their potential if you don't provide the conditions. There are plenty of online pictures and videos of drab looking denison barbs.

Fish ---denisonii barb(6), German blue ram(4), cory dora(3), Siamese algae eater(3), neon dwarf rainbow(8).

Get more SAEs, 5 at least as well and drop the corys(if the tank is not big enough to house corys as well). The SAEs and denison barbs for the most part think they're the same fish but the SAEs are also extremely social, as much as clown loaches and denison barbs so they'll appreciate their own group to which to retreat to.

I can' t understand why one profile is not enough for you.
I don't believe in a coincidence, same last name, age, tank size, writing style, new here.
Wolf&Fish = gmwJoy , so obvious!

Love these guys! One of my favorite barbs. Here's how I keep mine:
1. substrate - sand
2. filtration - fluval 406 canister and 2 ac110 hobs on a 6ft 135 gallon
3. water temp and chem - 78-80f ph 8 but fairly soft water
4. plants - yes, they feel more secure with plants
5. decoration - I've got driftwood and a couple large fake log hides
6. tank mates - mine are in with cories, bn places, couple Raphael cats, 1 sev, 1 ebjd, 3 Ctenopoma , 1 keyhole cichlid
7. how to breed - haven't tried
8. how to maintain - these guys are very active and jumpers. A 6 ft tank would really be more ideal. Mine are adults at a full 6" each. They use every bit of the tank length. They are pigs and will eat anything. Their main diet is MLS thera-A, omega one shrimp pellets, algae wafers (meant for the bns) and occasional fresh shrimp.
