Why would you want to take it out once you install it? For the monthly maintenence and bulb replacement you shoud have cutoff valves so you can remove it to service it -Anne

I have one installed, in line, on my fluval ---after the canister. I took off the return pipe, added the UV, and added an additional 12 inches of hose and put back on the return pipe. No shortening of hoses. I used to have a powerhead running it, with no filter.
