mammal meat being?...in the wild they cows, bulls, or whatever there called in the wild, dragging them in the water ...as shown on nature shows..but true thats fatty food..don't expect any finger chasing from a RBP...power head is good and drift wood...don't get nothing he can hide behind because more than likely he will do that..unless u don't care for him to be visible all the time...try to convince ur mom to let u keep three and bring up some of things people stated here...maybe u can convince her ...one RBP will be depressing for u and the P.....but thats just my opinion good luck though on water u decide

beef heart. in the wild they seldomly eat cows. not like in the nature shows.

You should also dim your lights a little too. I put pieces of window tint under my lights and they were almost instantly less skittish. I also would not rec. any mammal meat. Stick with the Hikari Bio Pellets, raw whole shrimp, white fish fillets, krill, frozen brine shrimp, and most freeze dried "fish" food.

wilda beast or whatever ...its a mammal...they do eat them to include small alligator/crocidiles or whatever...they do..just like the nature shows....WASN"T RECOMMENDING TO FEED THEM THAT.thanx..ur thinking about Pacu's maybe...either way..yeah

as far as stimulating the natural environment, its not really necessary considering most RBPs are tank bred.
I know I don't need to, I want to. IME all fish do better in an environment that is similar to the one their ancestors came from, unless they are a totally domesticated species (such as bettas, angelfish or goldfish). i'm sure you know that RBPs have only recently been removed from their wild ancestors.

beef heart should only be fed as a seldom treat because piranhas digestive systems are not meant to process mammal meat.
funny, I thought they had evovled the ability to process the proteins and fats of endotherms.

what they eat in nature is any dead/dying/injured land animal that falls into the water as well as any dead/dying/injured fish, although they do occasionally attack healthy fish/land animals. they are basically like aquatic vultures.

BTW wildabeests are native to the plains of Africa.

Just because a piranha eat something naturally doesn't means that they SHOULD be eating it. A fish will eat anything within its diet range.

Would you eat a Big Mac all the time? No, but there are people who do.
