how to stabilize datnoids

what kind of DAt you got, it must be IT if it unstable. I heard it up to the enviroment in order the make the stable. Comfortable/\

Lots of things come into play when trying to get a Dat stable. Water quality, tank size, lighting, background, gravel color, how many plants you have in the tank, if you have hiding spots or not, and tempeture. Just do your best to try to keep your dat happy.

Based on my experience you can only do so much to make the datnoid comfortable. Sometimes, its just depends of the fish. I have a total of 7 datnoids, 2 silvers, 2 NGTs, and 3 indos. All the indos are stable except for the biggest indo which is 3.5". The other indos are 2" and 3". I've had the biggest indo for close to 3 months.

My silvers and NGTs took 2 and 3 months respectively before they became stable. My tank has perfect water parameters, 82F, had driftwood as hiding place, and fed everyday. Its bare bottom as well.

All I can say is do what you have been doing all along and the indo will eventually become stable. You can only do what you can and if nothing still happens, just wait it out.

I guess I have been lucky my dat has been stable since day 1!!! I have heard that if they have no hiding spots, that helps....but who knows. I have a small cave & ceramic flower pot in my tank...he rarely hides though...
here is a pic, about 20 minutes after I put him in the tank

I have 6 IT and there are 2 that are unstable, but 1 in particular that's always dark. I've seen it stablized once and it was during feeding time.

i got a dat on the 6th for the first few days he was in a 30g with 84 water temp, black background no light and nothing in the tank, by the end of day one he was stable and looked grate, then he beat up my silver aro so i put him in a 38 with a light, gravel and flower pots all he has done is hide and is now the unstable skiddish fish i read so mutch about but in the 30g he was swimming around everyware looking grate now hes a wuse:irked:
