How to start....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
because i don't have 3/8 measure cup to mix up a gallon of BW at 1.012 but i can use 6 tablespoons. basically we're using the same amount of salt to get the same salinity, i just mix up smaller batches becuase i had a smaller tank and didn't want to store the excess water that i didn't use.

so all I will need on top of the normal stuff is the salt and a hydrometer? Thats the little metal thingie that measures the salt content right?
I think I've decided to get a fahaka puffer and everything I have read says they should be alone, is this right? And I read that they get to be 8" is this true too? cause I thought I remember them being one of the bigger puffers from looking awhile back....
Thanks for all your help guys!

If you're getting a fahaka, they don't need any salt--they're FW puffers. They grow to 18" & need a minimun of a 120g tank. Yes, they are generally, vicious killers!

Hydrometers are plastic.

okay, I got two gsp's today. I thought that I had heard the fahakas get bigger than 8", but everything I was seeing when I looked was saying around 6-8". My LFS said they keep their puffers in freshwater, so that is what my tank is right now, so what does the SG need to be at, I was only going to up it .001 every week....
What else is a good suggestion for tank mates? I was wanting something for the lower-level of the tank, are there any catfish that would help clean up the un-eaten food that stay smaller for this type of tank? They are in the 46. Right now they are tiny, less than an inch a piece, but I had read that they will get to be about 6", is that right?
