Just picked up a nice texas around 3" and i wondering how i can tell what species he is (carpintes (sp?) or cyano)

Any experts want to chime in or am i going to have to try and get a decent shot of him...(oh please no my camera skills are horrid)

Carpintis are more colorful and blue at that size. I've also noticed that they aren't as tall as cyanos. But I think a picture (even an awful one) will be necessary.

My camera is broke:irked: So I am stuck digging through old pics....After 15 minutes, this is the best I could do....Pic 1 carpintis....Pic 2 Cyano.....

Usually, not always...:)

Show me a photo of it being different. Yeah, there are hybrids that have varying degrees of spotting, but if it's a pure cyano or carpinitis the spots are pretty straight forward to telling them apart.

Looks like a Capinte to me with a nice bump already.

Those are two different fish, and I'm not the O.P.....I was giving him an example....

I'm assuming he picked it up from his lfs, it might not be pure or the highest quality. Let me see if I can dig up some pics of "small-spotted" carpintis. (I've never seen cyano's with large spots though) Of course it's rare, but you never know...the size of the spots 99% will be a give away...the color should also give it away.
