Since i have the 55 gallon how should i go about tranferring everything in my 30 gallon into the 55? Slow or quick? Where should i put the fish? How to move the plants? How to move gravel?

I was thinking about getting two buckets. one for gravel and one for the trash dirt. Then move the plants in fish into a small 10 gallon tank while i add the new dirt, gravel, old gravel, rocks, wood etc into the new tank. however this wont work if i have to be slow about this. I have no spare filter so doing this would only work if i do this quickly.

When I did a move, I put the fish in rubbermaid tub and with a HOB filter on it and an air stone. There were in there for over an hour, could have stayed in there all day. If I had to do it again I would use a sponge filter instead, HOB are difficult to put on rubbermaid tubs. Make sure the tub is large enough for all your fish.

I have no filtration tho :P thats the thing.

how do the fish live in the tank you have now with no filtration ?

If you have a filter on the tank with the fish, you can remove that and put it on the tub and simply transfer all the fish in there until you set things up. Fish will be fine without a filter for awhile.

crap... would they be able to stay in the tub for a week? I need to cycle the 55 for a week with the gravel and st00f. i not to sure if i should cycle it with my fish in it. I thinking of just gettin a feeder comet and letting it swim in there for a week. then i move it into my neighbors pond.

Fill some buckets or a container with water from your established tank. Put the fish in buckets or containers. Fish will be fine in the bucket or container for a few hours as long as they are not really large fish or overcrowded in the bucket or conatiner. Set up the new tank. Add water and dechlorinator. Put your filter with the old media from the old tank on the new tank. Then you can move the fish into the new tank.

you sure? out of lack of space for both tanks to coexist i cannot just cycle the 55 first. if i cycle the tank i need a place to put my fish until the tank is cycled. If just adding the old rocks, gravel, (some) water, and etc will work that would be awesome.

well i tried that like i got all the water from my 30 gallons and dirt rock gravel etc and transferred every thing to my 75 and then turned the filter on after about an hour added the fishes again and after that added little water everyday like you would do while changing the water in this case water was poured in not out and all went well

You can cycle it the way I do, just throw the fish in and let nature take its course. Make sure the water is conditioned and then just feed the fish once a day and test your water, do water changes when needed. I never lost a fish this way. The only difference between a cycled tank and one that is not cycled is the beneficial bacteria. Clean Water + Add Fish + Feed + Do Water Changes. Your tank will cycle in no time. I also add some bacteria in a bottle to cycle the tank fast.
