How to trap an Engineer Goby?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have to agree with Pig, if he always lives in the same place, just get some pvc (thats a similar size to his "cave"), cut it at an angle (would be ideal, but straight could work to) then shove it under the rock. Or you could cut the PVC down the middle so you end up with an arch, then cut the arch at an angle, so you end up with the back of the arch at or near the bottom of the tank, and the top up and open, creating a shallow wedge shaped cave.

Thanks everyone for the tips,

This goby is different lol...no joke like every 3-4 days makes a different tunnel. I had him for about 3-4 months....just wont settle in lol

I'm actually thinking about the drop net idea

Also btw today I brought my naso tang in....and came back with a Lemon Peel Tang....nice size 3 inches.

Do you guys think it's ok to perform a water change in a few hours or will that bother the new tang?

I'm not too handy with DIY ideas, and I just dont trust myself lol, any ideas on how to make the drop net?

I usually perform h2o changes the day before I know Im going to be adding new livestock if the day is going to be the day I usually do changes on or within three or so days afterwards.

I agree. You can let the water change go a few days and let the fish settle in. It really isn't a terribly bad thing if you do the water change, but would be more hesitant if the fish isn't eating and is hiding still.

The mimic is up and about, always swimming...looks awesome!

Trying to figure out a good diet for my fish as apparently when I brought the naso to the lfs, he asked if I was feeding him enough (he had a belly however at the lfs they all are super fat!...2-3 inch thick bellies the tangs they have)

Glad to hear.

Best diet would be a variety of stuff including(but not limited to) NLS pellets, Nori, and frozen foods. Sometimes soaking the stuff in a vitamin supplement like Selcon or Vitachem will help them stay fat too.
