How to use Python

Hey everyone, wellI see that a lot of members have the Python. How does it actually work? I think you take out the water with the tube and also connect it to the faucet. I don't really understand how it works, but if you fill back your tank from the faucet, what about the chemicals that remove chlorine and chloramines? Can someone please enlighten me?

You connect to your faucet and turn it on. The part you attach to the faucet has two position one to drain the tank and one to fill it. What i do with my tanks is add prime leave my airstone on for a bit then refill the tank.

The running water through the sink attachment creates a suction to siphon water our of the tank. It allows that method to be used when there isn't enough drop to just plain siphon. I just siphon out my front door, the python is convenient but seems like it wastes a lot of water, running water the whole time to suck it out of the tank. I've never actually used one so I don't know this for sure.

all else fails read the directions... I add full tank dose of dechlorinator(prime for me) to the tank right after I switch to fill mode... the thing is beyond self explanatory.....

Once the siphon is started you can turn the tap water off and the tank will still drain. What I normally do though is keep the tap running while I vacuum the sand to get the wastes out, then once I have most of the solid waste I'll turn off the tap and let the water finish draining 50-60% of the water out.

I made my own python using a waterbed tap attachment, hose and an old gravel vac. Much cheaper than the Python and works the same
