Im using some carbon to remove medication from my tank. On the box it says to rinse in tap water I did and the black water obviously slowed down and I packed a nice HOB filter bag for my top fin 60 . Im curious however if you wash activated carbon in chlorinated water does that use up some of the carbons potential to remove chemicals ? As far as I know carbon can remove chlorine right ? Which is not what I intended my carbon for.

For the first time rinse, I use tap. But if I rinse after that, I use tank water.
Using trap for the first time rinse doesn't bother it at all. I could be wrong though.

unless you want to get some R/O water to swish it around in or use some PRIME on some water first and do it that way if your worried about it
Tap water should be fine. All your looking to do is wash out the dust produced from packaging/shipping, correct? A quick run under the tap won't lower the effectiveness of the carbon, if that's what's worrying you. The minute amount of chlorine/chloramine that gets picked up in the carbon won't bother your tank either.
