Ok the LPS says let the fish inside the water in a big for 15 min then put a little water in the bag and do over again... but thats fish from the pet store... now im about to go fishing and get some sunfish how will i do that to them after i catch them, any ideas any 1?

Same deal, but if you drive a long way the water will have a lot of ammonia so a quicker transition is better.

Ideally, you can bring a lot of that fish's native water home and put it in the tank just before adding him.

Temperature might be your worst enemy. Keep that tank as cool as you can!

What kind of sunfish, tank size, etc?

75g on the prowel for just a couple pumpkin seeds :) just temp till i get my 150g going and then making the 75g into aqua forest :) also the thng about the pet store is they shoot air into it with a compressor, i dont havehat so how will i have a medium sized sunnie sitting in a bag waiting for the temp to measure out without him flopping every were :P

Get a big bag. Honestly, a rinsed trash bag or new/rinsed ziploc bag works just fine for a short trip. How long is the drive?

Compressed air is bad for most creatures. Think about those tiny toy submarines you put in a bottle and squeeze to make them sink. Same thing happens to the animal. Sickening, really.

You can use air from your lungs, it's only about 12% deoxygenated, less if you breathe rapidly.

I transport mine in a bag, in a big styrofoam box to keep them dark and thermally stable.

If you have any fish in the 75g as of now, I'd put the sunfish into a quarantine tank first as to not pass any parasites/disease to your 75g fish. If there's no fish in the 75g, there's your Q tank.

I was trying for some sunfish myself a few weeks back but I had to give up. I caught plenty but I also killed plenty trying to get the kind I wanted. Too many fish completely swallowed the hook and things weren't pretty. I stopped trying because I felt badly for the 3 I killed.:(

Good luck.

ittle settle your fish will be fine

hey cookie, what did you do when they swallowed the hooks?
i had one i took home bc i wanted to see what really happened and it actually just came out on its own in a few weeks. one day i came home and it was laying intact in the bottom. not rusted like most people think

the drive is 10 min. ill try the garbage bag. and i do not have any other fish currently in my 75g tank, but eventually i plan on taking the sunnies and moving them to a 150g and then taking the 75g and turning it into a aqua forest. no parasites can be passed liek that correct?

You can watch the fish's breathing rate as a sign of stress. If they are calm and breathing normally, you can take longer than 30 minutes of you feel the inclination to do so. If they are clearly stressed and breathing hard, cut it a little shorter and do bigger water swaps as you add tank water to the bag. It comes down to which scenario will likely be least stressful to the fish.
