Like the title says, I have set up a new tank for just them so theres no competition for food with midlevel swimmers .And i would like to know if they can handle it. I have seeded filter to put on when i do the move and have done it with other (cheaper) fish but not sure about these guys , I have over a hundred dollars invested in them so not really interested in screwing this one up gimme some advice please

I find Bichirs to be quite Hardy.... Just dont use convicts as feeders!!!!

I lost my large Ornate Bichir last year when she swallowed a convict and choked on it!! Damn thing was stuck in her throat! I wish I would have got a picture but I will NEVER use convicts again as feeders.

I'm glad to read this... otherwise I was going to make a post about breeding my convict to feed my bichirs. There's my answer.

It's mainly the dorsal spines. If you snip off the spines (I know it sounds inhumane), you should have no problem.

Thats WAAAAAYYYY too much work! lol

Plus I find that convicts were way too fast for the fish to catch. So you would always end up with a bunch of convicts that are too big to eat that you have to find room for.

That's another thing I was concerned about... convicts breeding faster than my bichirs can eat the babies.
