how tough are crayfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
AARRRGGGHHH!!! my pleco just isnt doing a gud job with the uneaten food, i dunno wat to do!!!

is it a definate that the crayfish would be eaten or is there a chance of it lasting a while (3 months) ????????

iif the cray gets eaten after 2-3 months thats fine but i dont want my p's getting killed!

Has someone stated that plecos make more waste than they actually clean. They are a waste when it comes to cleaning large tanks. Your really better of just cleaning the tank more than buying crayfish. i had one eat a rather pricey catfish and then 2 days later the mate of that catfish destroyed the cray. Didn't eat just ripped it to pieces. RIP STEPH MY JAGUAR CATFISH, AND RIP TANK, WHO WAS HER MATE WHO DIED A YEAR AGO

crayfish with exodons? just the same?

The one cray I had enjoyed killing off fish in my community tank, and started taking pieces off my pleco. Nothing in that tank could get at him. He was no match for my turtles though:D.

come on guys/girls, someone gotta know!!!

bitteraspects, you tried this before?

I have a farm pond with MANY crayfish. My Juvi. RBP's ~ 4-5" that I feed 3-4" crayfish too. Not a chance! My RBP's don't even wait for the molt to chow down.

Aren't crayfish native to the UK? They are prolific breeders and extremely common here in the mid atlantic USA! I usually either go out to a stream and snag a few dozen to use as feeders, or catch a few jumbos from my pond and tank raise them.

Keep in mind, that I keep them well fed, but I have not had a crayfish attack any of the baby fry Bluegills that I also raked up from my pond. I am hopeing that they tank breed and provide a great food supply!

They sell uber expensive in the LFS's around here though @ around 3 for $1! Even if they are eaten within 10 minutes, what is a buck, like half a euro? No great loss and if you find they are compatible, then you should be OK to invest in a "specialty" crayfish.

IMO, you have nothing to worry about with the cray's damaging your RBP's!
