How warm should I make my tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always turn the temp at 86 degrees add 1 teaspoonful salt per gallon. Then use noxich 1 drop per gallon. Half dose for small or scaleless fish. Do this for three days. Then on the forth day do nothing. On the fifth day change 50 % of the water. I have been doing this for 40 years and ich would stop. Just be careful as nox ich is some pwerful medication.

What caused this is the biggest point imo, yes u can bump up temp and treat accordingly but if nothing changes it will most certainly come back, I had ick once when I first began fk with a overstocked Overfed tank with very little wc, ever since then I've done wc when my n03 hits 40-60ppm, never have had any ick or any problems since then.

Prevention is the key and wc are ur friend.

min of 1 week. and i agree usually ick breaks out because fish are kept to cold to begin with. what species are you keeping and at what temp usually?

if at all possible and assuming it is caught early quarantine that one fish in a smaller tank and treat with heat and salt.

I noticed white spots on some other fish too, so I felt it would be best to medicate the whole tank.

Next time I buy fish I can use a .75 gallon tank I have (if I only buy 1 fish) And I have an internal filter for that tank.

Depends on the fish. If they are hardy you could go up to 88 degrees faremhight. . If they are not hardy I would not go over 84 degrees fairenhight. If It gets out of hand I would add quick cure or API ick meds(I have had good luck with both). for salt i would add 1 teaspoon per gallon of uniodized salt for most fish. But if you have cory cats or tetras you should add half a teaspoon per gallon. Good luck with your fish.
