How would a 2' goonch handle an ~24 hour ride?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah. Might have crashed, broke it and that is how it healed.

As to its nose it could have jist been pushed on the glass. I didn't look to closely as I was there for the opinion asked.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter if your still interested in it I would pm T tbrown7552 I am sure he will see you are capable of keeping it. Just habe to figure out a price you can agree on. I know I sold my 12" for $350 and I saw a 7" at $300 not that long ago. Imo $400 is a good price. Keeps the people that can't afford to house it away yet the people that can is it still in range. I have seen them go for $650 for large ones before.
The pics in the sale post were all taken same day. That is his mouth pressed against the glass making it look like there is a flatspot. The first image in the post you can see there is no flat spot.

Thanks, again. Hmm, i didn't realize people ask so little for their large goonch... or rather the market dictates such low prices. I was guessing a fair price for this 2'-er would be in the thousands.

I appreciate the thought but nah, t'was a super long shot. Travis should get at least that little money that he aims at. His achievement is tremendous and rare in my book.

My first choice is always for people to get paid back at least a little bit $$$ (I run a rescue and I deal with this issue all the time). As the very last resort, my thought could be entertained, which I'd rather it is not - too far a drive and too much risk. I myself am far from sure I'd want to do it. I was just thinking aloud.

I'm sure there are guys closer and more experienced with goonch and with better tanks that would be interested more seriously - vincentwugwg vincentwugwg A arapaimag

In my experience, goonch that is 12" or bigger is hardier than small one, or perhaps, I'm just suck with grow out. They tolerate a wide range of temperature, need more oxygen when water temp is higher than 75. As for transport, it's not hard, since they're not fast, constantly moving like lince. You just need a container just slightly longer than the fish length, even if it's the diagonal and not the long side of the container, a good air pump, and some Prime to add into the water just before you leave the seller place. Just put water barely cover the top fin.
If I was you, I would go for it Viktor. I've killed 2 goonch due to filthy water, plus 1 goonch because it ate a datnoid, which it regurged a few days later, and died 2 days after it regurged the fish. Those are large ones. I also killed 3 small ones, grow out at 5-6" when we had a heat wave. None died mysteriously.

Many thanks, John! Easy for you to say having so much goonch experience. :) I've not worked up courage to buy a small one and you want me to cross the country to get a big one? Step off at the deep end? haha...

What's the Prime for? I usually use liquid ammo-lock. Would that suffice?

Yes, ammo-lock would be fine. Just because of the long drive, you should put some to keep the ammonia down. If it's 4 hours trip or less, all you need is air pump. I knew that Li's big goonch was shipped from SoCal (Raymond) and it was not even needed a crate like shipping a lince.

I would go for a big goonch, have it in your big tank and watch it swim during feeding time like a hammerhead shark.

Man!!! You must be in sales! You know the right things to say and buttons to push. You probably can sell water, toilet paper, and hair gel to fish... haha...

This is why you should have a big goonch in your amazing collection, Viktor!

No. No. No. This is why I shouldn't :) I've no desire to thin out my expensive collection.

a guy i met a couple months ago that travels quite a bit to get fish bought a RTC from a friend. He uses a canister filter on a power inverter. I thought it was pretty clever.

It is a cool trick indeed when one has running canisters, which I don't. I used to run two Marineland 360's and two 220's in prior life in Rochester, NY. They have been sitting collecting dust for 6 years now. I probably could try revive them to see if the seals haven't fallen apart yet. Can be stuffed with aged media from my sumps.

This would also give me the much needed strong circulation.

Would someone, please, stop the bleeding and buy Travis' super goonch already, pretty please!? Very pretty-pretty please! I can tangibly feel getting sucked into this despite kicking and screaming. :) This is not a foreplay leading to anything nice. I am positive I will find a way to kill that goonch!

i have 2 Fluval 404s sitting in boxes that i put all new seals in a year ago. I also got a huge jug of Pond Matrix i got from secret santa that i can start seeding if needed. So basically no excuses. This is really starting to look like fate.
