How would you build a big pond?

Thank you Percy!

I will definitely not skimp on filtration, there are some big monster fish going in this pond, and I like to feed, so a pretty bulky filtration system needs to happen.
Would a sump provide better filtration? Along with a fluidized bead filter or two?

I never use the sump as a means of filtration but rather as a means to flush waste from the pond. I built a totally seperate filtration system which fed of the sump.

I had 4 6" drains recommended to me on another forum. Might go with more just in case, unless that's a bad thing.

I could probably do a few big bead filters or something of the sort, RDF filters, UV, some kind of bog (more for looks than filtration but it still helps), and then media in the sump.

Build the pond first and then think about stocj mate, btw I am willing to bet you that you won't be putting tropical fish in there ;)

depending on your location I can agree that tropical fish may be out of the options

Bump.

Is there any way to insulate the concrete for the pond? I am planning to cover it with a portable tent during the winter, and just temporarily seal it off at the bottom. Then use propane heaters in the air, plus some huge submersible heaters (either 1000 or 6000 watts) year round to keep everything stable. Oh, anything on the feeding? And is the stocking OK? Is the pond generously large? Could it be smaller?
If you are going to build this outside out of concrete did you think if trying a closed loop in floor heating style heater? It will be the initial cost that's the downside. If I was spending the money on this big of a build I would look at a self contained unit with water heater/chiller the thermostat the hole 9 yard.
My theory is if you keep the concrete warm it will keep the pond warm
