How would you filter a 300g

Ahh I see. My bad then, but I do agree that I prefer sumps for tanks over 100 gallons. I run them on everything from 90 on up. Totally see your point on heating rooms vs heaters.....I live in Florida so heaters are something that rarely gets used, but could totally see those up north preferring to heat a room.

That being said, I run 5 sumps and all are one single chamber. Not one has 3 chambers.......just a sock hanging off the side and bio sitting before my pump inlet so the EVERY sump has 3 chambers is a little off the mark. A sump is a container.......what you choose to put in it is up to you. Most use the sump as a filtration device, some for plants, some for a qt tank for fish entering a system or for fish needing a timeout of some sort. I do it often sometimes with 12"+ fish.

and the water volume, in my case......is for the fish....lol regardless of wether Im on a drip or not. I responded to your post because this statement is, in my opinion, is just not true.......

"The maintenance and the amount of media is unbeatable. No sump can compensate or even stand its ground compared to a bead filter."

Everything you have said is true and I also run sumps in my larger tanks. I do like sumps but on large aquariums i lead towards bead filters. The sump in my 220 has a 2200 gph pump so fish living in the sump is just impossible for me lol They would probably die due to the current. But I did make a vast statement that is debatable as that sumps cannot stand toe to toe with bead filters. Its what an individual prefers.

Understood, and a good debate for sure. The 135/75 I just built has a diablo dc5500 pushing it. Probably moving around 1100gph after headloss and I house Pseudomogil furcatus and some [FONT=arial, sans-serif]Gymnocorymbus ternetzi. I think a lot of it has to do with how the flow goes through the sump.

My 300 is pushing around 2200gph and I'm constanty pulling festae fry out lol. Big ones and they are a pain to catch in there because I did not intend on keeping fry in that one. Not quite to user friendly for fry removal.

I like the Ultima twos' for certain applications. If I remember correctly Pacu Mom has one on her big tank.....could be wrong though.

002.JPG001.JPGI didn't read all the replys. so sorry if these have been covered. when I first set up my 300. I used a rubber maid garbage can, I made a 2" pvc overflow like in the diy section, I used a large mag pump fpr the return, had my heaters in the can, I put egg crate light diffuser in the top of the can and I use bonded Dacron for filter material. then I moved to a 300 gallon stock tank. I put a 100 gal stock tank onside of it and had the tank water go through this first its where I had my Dacron and heaters. I blew the bottom out of that and am now running 2 100 gallon stock tanks
