How would you stock a 125g planted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you really like the amazon feel .. I'de go w/ Cardinals instead and get your hands on some nice Altums for angels. personally not a CL person either, but a giant herd of Kuhli loaches would be neat w/ a similar pattern. personally I'de do the same but drop the Angels and get Rams instead, or possibly try my hand at Discus. It really depends on a few tihngs.. mainly how much money you want to spend.. and the maintence you want to do.

In regards to the angels with neons I've found in order have the best chances of making it work you should add the neons first and add the angels last and add them as small as possible. I've found that gives it the best chance of working out. Even then....might not.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Just to clear a few things up. I haven't started the planted tank yet, I'm still trying to sell off my monster fish that are occupying it. Secondly all I have are 8 CL's (2-3") so far that will be going into the tank. Lastly looking back on what I said about angles and neons, I understand that that likely wont work. I must have typed that down unconsciously or something.

All the info I can really give at this point is:

125g planted community
216 watts of light (1.7wpg)
stock - 8 CL's (so far)
x2 penguin 350's
white gravel 1/16th"
PH - 8.5 (med-hard water)

I was thinking...
10 clownloaches
15-20 neon tetras
5 rubber lip plecos
3-5 angels

I'd love to hear your ideas

I like the whole setup except for Angels, only because I don't find angels that interesting . . . maybe chocolates, severums, smaller acaras (like Blue or Port), and maybe some Rainbow cichlids

8 CL's sounds like a lot for a 125g, let alone 10... I'd be more comfortable with about half that.

totally disagree with others, id do
10 clowns
10 angels
10 geos
DO NOT put sevs or chocolates in your planted tank unless you want to have all of your plants dissapear

people always say you cannot keep plants and such-and-such cichlids together . . . it's not true . . . you just have to be sure to choose hardy plants that can take some abuse, and be persistent . . .
