I just recently acquired a young payara but I'm not too sure what it is.
I was told red tail (tatauia) but I'm having second thoughts..
Is there anyway I can ID my 3 inch fish?

looks like a scomb from the angle it's swimming from. Any bigger pic? I know that to ID armatus, you'll need to wait until the fish is around 4 inches so you can see if it has an orange adipose fin or not.

I was thinking the same thing. That's the biggest pic I got. I was thinking that method of ID with Armatus would be the same with Tats.
But is it possible to know as of right now?

100% scomb. Noo way thats a tat.

+1

For it to be a tat thr tail is wrong, the head is wrong, the jaw is wrong and the swimming angle is wrong.

I've novice's a lot of scomb/tat co fusion among vendors. I got my tat for $40 thanks to that LOL
