do you know if your finger's broken?!

x-ray is the best way. until an x-ray its pretty much all guess work, even if its a doctor checking it.

if you did something with enough force to inflict severe pain, its swollen and/or you cant move it then best get to casualty for an x-ray.

also another clue is if your finger is bending in a way that no finger should.

did you hear the snap like i did when i broke 4 metatarsals?

It usually get's huge and swollen, and will be painful to move even a bit. You can get the same indications from a sprain, so I guess the only way to know for sure is to get an x-ray done.

Neer, see your doctor regardless. That's concerning actually from the sound of it.

yeah, i thought so too but i'm in spain at the moment, going to be back in london on sunday... maybe i can wait until then.. i dunno.. but i can't even move my finger

yeah definitely and go see a doctor. the last thing you want is a crooked digit. i shattered my pinky 6 years ago, and now my left pinky is a quarter inch shorter than my right pinky. the longer you wait to go see a doctor the worse it will get

It sounds more like a strain, but regardless of fracture sprain or strain when you go to the doctors there going to splint it. I would get a head start on that so you can minimize further damage. Depending on what finger it is, you may need to immobilize the entire hand. You need to splint the joint below and the joint above to minimize movement.
If its swollen you can take some nsaid's (non-steriodal anti-imflamatory drugs) like motrin or naprosin, and that will take care of the swelling and lessen the pain.
But regarless I would see a doc if the symptoms do not improve. Good luck. Hope this helps out

Go see a doctor Neer just to be safe. I remember when I broke my finger playing lacrosse in H.S. My finger has never been the same since. I should have seen a doctor so I could have had a splint or something put on it.

for the NSAID, thats just ibuprofen. go to asda and buy their own brand. same drug as the more expensive ones like nurafen just a fraction of the price.

I would go to a doctor local to you and sign in as a temprary patient for 15 days, tell them its an emergency and get seen quicker.
