so how are everyone's beani doing?
i know like at least 5-6 people got some from joe or jose a few months ago - anyone want to share updates?

all of mine are still alive. i ordered two from jose and got one from joe.
the one from joe was 3" or so when i picked him/her up and it's around 4-4.5" or so. very thick and chunky. i'm guessing it's a girl.

the other two from jose are doing well. putting on size a bit slowly. one is around 2.5" and the other is 2" or so. both also super chunky.

i'm thinking i may have all girls, but as long as they are healthy that's all that matters. i'm feeding them hikari excel, ocean nutrition one and spriulina flakes along with spirulina brine shrimp. water temperature around 78F, TDS is around 500ppm and i think pH is around 7.5-8 if i am not wrong...

will post pictures once i get around to taking some.

Mine are doing excellent but not really growing much. They have only put on maybe 1/2 inch to 3/4". I have 2 females one male. Females just started competeing for the male so they had to be split up.

Feeding Hikari Excel, spruilina flakes and Brine Shrimp.

Other than that doing great and one is really responsive to me the male. He practically jumps out of the tank when I come near because he's extatic that he's getting food.

So, how are you guys sexing them if Gani and Gary thought they had two males till one laid eggs at 8-9"?

Expert Guessing........

There are hypothesis on body shapes, contours, finnage...... But if Gary and Gani were unable to determine then I'll refrain from guessing myself, considering those two are pretty darn knowledgible about the hobby!

:D
the larger fish i have has a very chunky body shape and the fins are not developing the types of trailers you would expect from male CA cichlids. i think beani sexing shouldn't be much different from other cichlids in that regard... again it's all postulating until something happens.

I sold my two little guys, along with a bunch of other fish. Honestly, the beani weren't as cool as I thought so I sold them to someone with a different opinion. ;)

Mine is based off of body depth and competition. As I said the Females were cleaning off rocks and the male would shudder over them but the females would fight all the time for the male. Thats how I am basing it but hey I could be wrong. I am about 70% sure I have two females and a Male. Though females and Males have the same exact markings.
