how're people's beani doing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ewok. You got some from two different sources. Is the collection area the same? I think they were collected from two different areas, right? Anyway, do the fish look different based on where they came from?

well i think they are from river systems that are either the same or just next to each other. i can't remember their names!
they look pretty similar - the little ones are small, fat versions of the big one :D
i think i need to stop giving them so much food. for a while i had little swimming golf balls haha...

but their coloration looks pretty similar. i dunno if they are siblings, but i doubt the chances of that given not only their significant size differences but the collection times were off by a few weeks as well. the smaller ones are somewhat darker in their 'lattice' whereas the big one is getting slightly lighter in coloration, but the bars are very much there.
i'll post pictures once i get things going again...

Mine is based off of body depth and competition. As I said the Females were cleaning off rocks and the male would shudder over them but the females would fight all the time for the male. Thats how I am basing it but hey I could be wrong. I am about 70% sure I have two females and a Male. Though females and Males have the same exact markings.

dude you have fish that are gonna spawn at 2.5"??? that's nuts...

but awesome for the hobby haha :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

you keeping them all in the same tank or something?

I don't think they will successfully spawn at all right now but still pairing up for when they do get mature around 5" I believe. Well the Male and Female are in a 50 BRD right now and the other Female is in a 40 gallon BRD. Had to split them up because of aggression.

Again they will not successfully spawn at all at this age. They are just too young but it looks like they are begining to pair up.

Cross, lets see some pictures of your setups. I'm thinking about putting a couple of mine together to see if any "pairing" activities happen.

Can we get more pics? Years ago I heard of how aggressive and rare these fish are and would like to see pics, preferably of someone's larger one?

here are some pictures of my big one... around 4-4.5"
