How's this female GT looking?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Venting is going to be more hassle then I want to go through.. it'd involve tearing down the whole tank and I really don't want to do that with a lot of the plants starting to sprout new leaves finally.

:(

guess I'm just gonna have to wait and see how things go.

You were right the first time, that fish is 100% Female, and a nice one at that.

Thanks. How are you able to discern that it is a female exactly? I tried searching last night, but it was late, and I may not have been lookin up proper search criteria.

Turn all lights off at night, wait for like half an hour, then sneak up with a flash light. They usually just sit there and very very easy to catch.

The odd, plump body shape has always been the first thing I've looked for. The "faded" coloration throughout the body, and the fact that the anal and dorsal fins don't extend past the caudal fin also say Female to me.

For reference, here's a picture of a female I once had.

More work than I want to bother with currently. Maybe I'll have time in a month or so but right now just not possible due to location of tank and schedules of everyone else in the house.

Ah ok, that sounds good then. I'll keep an eye out on it in the future and ee if things change. It seems as if she has some colors starting to come through along the backside as she is growing so she may not stay faded? I guess time will tell.. I'd get a better pic of her side to show you what I mean but only time I get her on the side is when she's chasing someone... otherwise she stares the camera down.

What that a silver female?

Yes, that was my Female Silver Saum. She was the meanest fish I've ever had, but full of personality.

I used the term "faded" loosely in that compared to a male GT, their coloration is pretty bland.

Gotcha.. the more I looked at her this morning, the more I saw a resemblance in the color pattern that yours has, with the bright streak of colored spangles that seem so start around the gills and do a semi arch across the body towards the tail.
