How's this for a stock?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could get an oscar, Electric blue jack dempsey -they are not as aggressive, maybe a severum (not sure on that one), but I would not get a pictus. You could then add a firemouth.

I would get them all at the same size.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. Looks like I need to do some more thinking before moving forward with this. I do believe I will play it safe and skip on the JD though. Have been doing some reading and understand they are rather difficult to get going and keep healthy and with my just starting out in the hobby I don't know if I feel comfortable that I could deal with that right now.

Yeah if I were putting it together I would do Oscar, Electric Blue Jack (stay smaller and less aggressive), Silver dollars and a smaller Pleco like a bristlenose or something like that. If you still arn't sold on the Jack switch it out for a sevrum. I like the red head sevrums personaly. Gool Luck and welcome to the hobby!

my JD ate my fire mouth so... but at an lfs there is this 8 in ch dempsey with tiny fire mouths really depends on their personality.I got an outgoing crazy dempsey and the one at the store just likes to hide. your Jd might try and snap at the pictus cats. mine ate a plece and an eel to.

I had an oscar, a jd, and a few firemouths together. that worked fine. And they were in a 75. It was a grow out tank but it worked. I would think the pictus should be fine too. I think with a tank that big, if that is all you have you should be fine. But again like it's been said, fish react differently and some situations just don't work. I would say it is worth a shot.

The pic below is from the thread Expensive mistake, and this is why I would say it's pretty risky to put a pictus in with an Oscar that is bigger than itself.

i have a 4 inch pictus with a 9 inch oscar and a 6 inch carpintis and a 5 inch red devil. i have also had a breeding pair of dempseys before the red devil and capintis, just give them places to hide that the other fish cant get into. also every fish is not the same, just because it didn't work for one doesn't mean it wont work for another.

1. Oscar
2. Jack Dempsey
3. Firemouth
4. Rainbow shark
5. 5 Pictus Catfish

OK....The OScar will definately pick on the Pictus Cat.......Personally I would leave the Oscar and Jack Dempsey, and scoop out the rest..........T

i had an oscar and jack both same size in a 125gl and it was like UFC in the tank every day... i must say the jack was relentless and beat on that oscar all day everyday. i eventually got a heart and had them both adopted out for the sake of ther best intrest. they would have killed eachother.. just my own expirence
