No offense but most "monster fish keepers" are fish abusers that keep giant fish in tiny tanks.

Can you please elaborate on this? I'm not sure I quite grasp the concept. We do not support keeping oversized fish in small tanks, but some people do (and it is wrong).

UMMMMM I MEAN THIS WITH THE DEAREST OF ENDEARMENT FRIEND

:WTF: :nutkick: :owned:

SERIOUSLY DUDE MOST MFKER I KNOW HAVE TANKS YOU COULD SWIM IN :naughty:

might I ask what sizes your tanks are and your stock

Without turning this thread into some bashfest. I believe the intention of true MFKers is to educate those into providing adequate quarters for their pets. Whether it be a tetra or a pima. However as with all suggestions, there will be those that choose to not care about the information contained within this site.

As for the 9:1 ratio. I have never heard of that before. However that can also be attributed to mishandling at the store or other factors. You will always have your casualties, but a well maintained store/keeper can definitely reduce that ratio.

Whoa, enough with the all capitols, eh? One word here or there for emphasis, but all caps all the time is even hard to read. I understood it in the first post, you were beyond honked off, but you've done it in every post.

Offense taken. I will not take on a fish I cannot house properly, which means I may never realise my dream of keeping a clown knife. The majority of people registered on this forum are monster tank owners because of the fish they want to keep. This forum is here not just to share our experiences but to educate newbies.

As for HR669, it is well meant, but horrifically wrong in the way they want to implement it. As worded it would not only destroy our hobby, but the entire pet industry. Tropical fish were just a by blow, this was aimed at herps and other "dry" exotics. This will destroy the entire pet industry unless you want a dog or a cat, end of choices. It would eliminate serious hobbyists, period, unless you are independently wealthy. Not just well off, we're talking filthy, stinking rich.
Breeding will be illegal, even if you have "grandfathered" fish or other animals.
This is one scary bill people. I have written to all the committee members from my state, whether they were "my" representative or not, I signed the site's petition, I've talked about it on every forum I participate at, brought it up at the local fish club and told a guy that I know that's active in herp circles. In short, I am doing everything within my power to get this bill derailed. While it's still a bill, we have a chance. Make some noise, dammit.

EDIT: Here's a link to a good place to monitor this abomination:

WOW, MY FRUSTRATION WITH A BS BILL HAS TURNED INTO A DEBATE ON FISH KEEPING PRACTICES. I THINK THAT ITS SOMEWHAT THIS TYPE OF THINKING THAT IS FUELING THE BILL. PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE HOBBY HAVE A MISCONSEPTION THAT FISHKEEPERS JUST BUY WHATEVER, WHERE EVER AND THROW IT IN THE 29G THE BOUGHT AT WALMART AND WHEN THE FISH GETS TO BIG WE FLUSH IT DOWN THE TOILET OR TURN IT LOSE IN OUR LOCAL TROUT POND. WHILE I DO REALIZE NON NATIVE SPECIES HAVE INVADED NORTH AMERICAN WATERS, WHY SHOULD WE ALL PAY FOR SOMEONES IGNORANCE.

Opps, didnt even realize the caps where on and I did it again before I read your post.:nilly:SORRY

MFK; a weath of fish keeping knowledge and typing etiquette:ROFL:

I'm quite confused here. I mean on one hand I don't think they should STOP allowing people to own non-american species in america because north america is lame. But there DOES need to be something done about how many fish have to die so ONE can get to your local petshop. They say about 9 fish die for every 1 fish that you purchase.

I say: The only way you can get exotic fish is if you order them individually (personally) from foreign countries. So I call someone IN africa or w/e and tell'em "click click pop pop" and they tell me how much I owe them and they catch and ship the fish.

From lake to aquarium (or river or w/e it's from)

I love fish and I think people need to stop abusing them!

Keeping a parakeet in a small cage and bringing it out to fly around in your house and sit around on your indoor trees is quite diff. than keeping a fish to live and die in a tiny glass box.
Not here we dont.
