There is LFS a bit away from me and I took a trip there to take a look around and restock supplies. I was walking around the cichlid section and looked in one of their planted tanks and I see these massive FM's. They were I would say a good 7-8". :headbang2 There was one that i knew had to be 8" and had a nuchal hump on his head. They were brightly colored as well. The label caught me though they were labeled as, "Royal Firemouths" and were $29.99. I am guessing this is just a gag but if anyone has heard of these massive royals please share. I didn't have my camera on me but if anyone lives in CT take a trip to All Pets Club in Wallingford. I am probably going back because I forgot to get a few things while i was up there so I'll bring my camera. I wanted to buy one so bad but I don't have enough room or money at the time.

nope but very interested to see them. You should have just bought them!!! Never seen or heard of a FM with nuchal hump. They didn't look hybridized at all did they??

thats really weird. never heard of a FM getting that size or getting a hump

Would like to see pics. They are decent size. They might be hybrids with the hump.As for the royal term.It would just be a sales gag like "Royal GT".
LOL.Won't be long and we will be seeing fish labelled as Regal Festae,Majestic Black Belts, Sovereign Dovii and maybe a Nobel Salvini.

The didn't really look hybridized. They looked normal to me just alot bigger than what i've ever seen. The hump was more like a pretruding forehead than a nuchal hump though. I could of picked one up if I had the money but buying supplies is pricey. LOL. Also don't have the room. I will definately try and reserve one there and pick it up once I pick up the 125 I'm buying. How do think they would fair though with a Flowerhorn and a Green Terror or my Salvini thats going in it. I dont have the flowerhorn or green terror but looking to add them to a 125. The huge FM's are basically same behavior as a normal FM's maybe a little more agressive.

As I was saying on another thread firemouths do get that big and sometimes get humps as well. It just takes a lot of work. To add to that you can keep them in planted takes without much trouble until they start to breed. This is another highly underated cichlid. Mostly because you see so many smaller ones. How many full grown adults have you seen. Most have never had the pleasure except in books of course.

I think the GT will do fine with the FM and Salvini, BUT I've heard Horror stories about Flowerhorn's compatibility and thought they needed their own tank. Even 125 might be too small for all 4, especially since the FH's get much bigger (I think). The FM would get wasted and the GT might hang but sounds risky. If you're buying new fish as little guys (under 2-3") then I'd say go with a pair of FM's, and a female Salvini, with a GT. Bet that'd work. My GT and FM are in a 90 and have plenty of room to get away from eachother if they need to. Unfortunately my GT killed my female salvini as a juvie around 3 1/2"

I wana see pics of that big FM!!!

Good Luck!:D

FH's are hit and miss. They can be savage fish that gro huge (15-16") to a docile fish that only get 10-12". I would say on average though they are quite aggressive and grow larger than a GT. It could work though. And like all fish starting them off as juvies will give you a better chance.
