Huge Firemouths

I was thinking on getting all juvi's because the LFS just got shipment of some new Dovii and FH and they are all under 3 inches. There's a 5 inch GT there with amazing colors and it's only $15. So i'm thinking I'll start the tank off with them and my salvini. I also heard may be some myth but if you keep a lone FH in a tank and add it to a tank with some mates it will kill every single one of them, but if you get them young like 3 inch the FH will accept some tank mates.

FH's are hit and miss. They can be savage fish that gro huge (15-16") to a docile fish that only get 10-12". I would say on average though they are quite aggressive and grow larger than a GT. It could work though. And like all fish starting them off as juvies will give you a better chance.

My knowledge of the Flowerhorn is limited at best, but I have to wonder....GT's have the temperment to deal with them (In most cases not all), but I'd be concerned with the growth rate. Owning a GT, I have observed them to be very slow growers compared to other fish. Even on a high protein diet. Some fish grow so fast you can almost watch them get bigger while you look at em

So... Is a flowerhorn a fast growing fish compared to the gold and white saums (GT)? I wouldn't buy them until I knew for sure (I don't but maybe you guys do already). I would buy a bigger GT than the FH but not sure if that'd be the right thing to do. I'd love to see two adult GT's and FH's together...what a tank!

One more thing...I'd grab that GT ASAP sounds like a great deal to me

I really do want to get this GT but I have to wait because I only have a 40 gallon and a 15 and both are stocked fully. Thats why I am buying this 125. The GT that I want to get is I'd say 2 or 3 inches bigger than the FH I wanted to get. So I'm sure the GT will get passed in growth by the flowerhorn but it won't be that much. I know it takes about 2 years for a FH to develope into a big monster and by then the GT would be around 9 inches or 10.

Thats what i was planning to do. I was going to call and then place a reserve on him. The problem is I don't know when I'm picking up the 125 it could be a couple of weeks or a month. The guy still has the tank running and hes moving so he has to find someone to take his fish or find a store to sell them to.
