i agree 100%, is very much a waste.... the a@%hole who speared it probably does not even like the taste of fish!! never, ever will understand the need for these types of people to hang as many dead animals on their walls as is possible... too bad there was not a short spear season on spear fishers...!!! haha
and, yes there is an "arm" of fishing that does the diving down, lurking and spear shooting fish, the larger the better...is unfortunate!

yeah, it bothers me when people kill really big specimens, i don't know why....i'd like to spear him and hang him on the bottom of the coral reef
I'm a diver and can honestly say that spearfishers are wussies... lol. I think that he'd get more of a reaction being down there and taking a pictue of it without killing it, and then he'd have people gawking at him being down there without any protection and how brave he is, and that's typically what asses like him are after when they're spearfishing... to "prove their manhood" or something. It's just plain lame. I can also say from experience that it is NOT at all challenging to dive down and shoot something like that. And I mean doing it while snorkeling... doing it while SCUBA diving would be even easier. But it's still far from hard to do. A lot of times fish just swim up to you while you're underwater instead of above water, you seem less threatening to them. When I went snorkeling in some mountain streams in Utah (to shallow to do SCUBA, and also too much of a current 
), 3' long trout would swim right up to your face! If I was a spearfisher it wouldn't be any problem at all to stick the gun in it's face and pull the trigger. The same goes for bowfishermen (about the same as spearfishing, but you're out of the water instead of in it. It dosn't take any talent and thus I don't have any respect for spearfishers or bowfishermen.
