Huge question on a central american tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
get the 150,oscar, jack dempsey, green teror, red devil, specturm

but if you plan on getting these i would skip the devil unless you have a spare tank when he gets bigger, cause it might kill all those fish even with that size tank.

unless the 150 is a wide tank then just get the 125. the standard 150 and 125 have the same footprint but the 150 is about 4" taller which won't mean much when it comes to cichlids unless you want to have some extra height for maybe a school of dithers like giant danios or silver dollars. I also agree that you'll want to leave out the red devil because even in that size tank there is no guaruntee that a red devil will cohabitate with others. :)

"PLEASE DON"T EVEN THINK ABOUT PUTTING A MUSKIE IN 6 FOOT TANK!!"

I agree 100%. The world record Muskie was around 6 1/2 feet long!

A 125 is good for a mix on some medium to large species of cichlids. Oscars, Jags, Texas, Dempseys and many other CA cichlids come to mind. Unless you want to just keep just one fish, stay away from dovii or Umbies. Even a single male dovii or Umbie could outgrow a 125.

Are you getting these tanks new or used?? I paid around $600 for a new 125 with a wooden stand and glass covers.

Good luck.

so here is what I'm thinking. If I put up plans and pics for how to build a stand and how to do this for multiple sizes of aquariums could it be stickied. If there is already a post like this then I won't bother but if there isn't then I will thoroughly explain and post pics and pics of drawings. So if a mod could let me know or if somebody else knows off the top of their head if their is already post like this let me know please. I would skip the RD unless you are planning on getting more agressive cichlids on average. There are cichlids that will be as aggressive as RD but not the ones that the previous poster listed. That and I don't find them that attractive anyways :)

I think im going to go with the 125, and put a sump pump in it. I have heard there the most effient, let metance, and most of all the most expensive, and if i ever go to salt water..it would be worth it. I'll probaly get a texas, and a jag, becfause i'll have some other ciclids. I dont know what kinda bottom probaly rock. Put plants? or maybe a lot of rocks, i sell real stone so that owuld be cool any other suggesgtions they have been gerat, and some pics of some golden spectrums, i saw a really nice one @ the pet store but they were sold, also, how aggresive are they also, what is there behavior!d

If the difference in weight from a 125 to a 150 scares you, I dont want to stand beside your tank

  Agreed!!! LOL:ROFL:

For those prices I'd score both of them, throw out the bed and sleep in the bath tub. Well maybe not go that far but I wouldn't pass up the chance to get tanks that size for that cheap.

If I had to choose between the two I'd get the 150, give those guys some room to move. Unless it's a tall then :barf:

Love the Puking smiley... gotta love long drinkin nights... GET STINGRAYS IN THE 150. with some cool cichlids...:nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :nilly:   :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: :naughty:

Thought about rays, but than you have to be really careful...there are some @ fish store about 3 inch in diamter, but i want ciclids, i wanna make a really nice tank.

Go with a wet dry filter?
