At my desk
A HUGE Sacramento Sucker (Catostamus Occidentalis) to be exact.

TheFishWrestler and I occasionally go catch these guys. This guy is by far the largest one we have ever caught, or I should say that TFW has ever caught. As a matter of fact my field guide says the largest recorded one ever caught was 30 yrs old and 22 inches. This one is 26 inches!

:headbang2

ps the other one is just a little smaller than average size, these guys are destined to be fish food now.

Nice fish - but why kill the big breeder for fish food? I'd rather take a couple of smaller guys. Plus, that big boy looks like he has a nasty bacterial or viral infection around the tail section.

And why would you eat a carp/sucker they are bottom feeders that means they are scavengers and they eat turds...

dude some bottom feeders are the best food the just have to be young like blue cats there excellent for eating when there like 1-3 pounders. dont critize what people eat everyone likes certain things and many peoples pallets are different so one thing may taste like crap too one person but to the other its wonderful. all we know it could be fish food.

The catfish you buy is farm raised zfoster. They know exactly what is going into that mouth they are feeding and that is why they taste so good. I personally stay away from suckers, carp, and cats and go after perch, panfishes or walleye.
Another reason I wouldn't eat that sucker is because of that infection near the tail. yuck
They are fun to catch, but I let those live to fight another day.

no no i know that. but also talapia are farm raise but there raised with white bass mostly to eat there poop. but wild caught on hook and line 1-3 lb blue cats they dont taste like mud yet so they taste good. but no i myself would not eat carp or suckers because carp are way to bony and hard to cook and dont look like a good fish to eat same with suckers.

the fish does not have an infection, it was speared through the tail.

suckers are very similar to carp, very bony and not very good tasting. supposedly suckers from cold water taste similar to trout, but the american river below folsom lake is not that cold.

So according to the field guide you have the largest ever caught, is there a way you can verify it with F&W to get credit for the catch, that would be sweet!
