That's probably not HITH. Looks like exaggerated sensory pits to me.
 
yeah I was at first curious about the holes which were in fact the sensory pits running across the nose of the fish, but the spot in question was behind the gill, the fish's right gill which is a bit discolored, slightly grey, and the scales look a bit different. It is not symmetrical. I noticed it when he was about 2 months old, and treated it right away, it has not changed, improved or worsened. Maybe its just like a birthmark.

I was aware of HITH dangers for oscars before I got the little guy, and I have been doing water changes for his sake at a much higher frequency, sometimes daily. here are a few pictures of the same huge oscar for closer inspection. what do you guys think about that greyish spot? HITH?

i wouldnt worry too much, our oscar had those issues when it was smaller for a while... and also did have hith, and yours does not look life threatening or anything so just keep doing water changes and im sure he'll improve with age
