I’ve had a hujeta gar for about a year now, I got it when it was three inches long and now it’s about six. He eats good and had clean water. I was expecting him to at least put up 1/2 inch/mo growth rate, but he only grew 1/4. Do you think he’ll ever hit 1 ft and any tips how to get him to grow bigger

Mine went from +-5cm to about 20cm in almost a year, ive noticed it had a growth spurt a couple of times then went back to growing slowly.
I have noticed that sometimes not feeding for 3 days might help it grow quicker, every time ive fed them a little less is when they seem to grow the fastest. If i feed them daily they lose their appetite. Now i usually do once every 2 days and sometimes skip a day, theyre well fed but will still have an appetite.
I feel like they will probably continue growing till at least 25cm and the biggest one till 30cm+ (1ft+)
How big is your tank? The tank mines are in is 160x50x50cm and theyre in there with a single pinktail chalceus and 6 satanoperca daemon (since this week) if your tank is a lot smaller they probably wont grow till full size potential.
Also you keep it alone? Getting some (girl)friends might help reduce stress and make it grow faster, i know i grow bigger when theres beautiful women around too lol
What do you feed him? If only Live then you should fill the feeder fish up with some kind of protein rich feed
