Hujeta's / rocket gars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends what size they all are. I know Cory's occasionally swim to the top to get some air so if they're big enough to not be seen as food they'll be fine.

The gars are around 4 inches and Cory's are 1 inch.

Thanks for the pictures, they seem well feed.

I don't have any cover or floating plants, did you find that to be necessary?

No. They don't need them. I noticed that they like swimming against the flow of the sump output sometimes everyday though

Great, I have two outflows on each corner.

I'm thinking of buying some frozen shrimp and let them thaw out and serve them to the hujeta's.

Do I need to cook them first?

Thanks for providing information on them.

How long did you keep yours and anything else worth mentioning?

No need to cook them. Just make sure to cut them up to smaller pieces they can eat. They are pretty skittish at first but then they will start coming to the front whenever they see you. The only thing is I had difficulty getting any food to them that didn't float as they got bigger. When they were only about 2", they would actually swim to the bottom and pick food off the ground but once they got to around 5", anything that dropped past them more than a few inches, they wouldn't even bother and just grab whatever was at top. I had mine for about 6 months an in that time they grew from 2"-8" before I sold them. They also love to swim in schools so I kinda regret only gettin 2. It would be cool to have a group of 5+ and they seem to like the water in the low 80's. When my temp dropped down to 78, there were days when they didn't eat even after not eating for a week but once I raised it back up, they would eat all day everyday

Thanks for all the input.

I'm really looking forward to get them, I've already got the store to but 5 aside for me, but the tank has not finished cycling yet.

Hopefully 1-2 more weeks and it's done.
