It's not a fun thing to have happen... take my word for it.


And you have to be careful even in 'safe' touch tanks. They trim the barbs, but even pros miss them from time to time, or don't trim enough. If there is sheath on the stub, it's still toxic.
I was at an aquarium in the midwest (won't say which one) a couple weeks ago. In the touch tank, I saw a ray with 3 stubs (still hot) and a new sharp barb growing in under them. Not a very good trim job in my opinion.

I avoid interaction with my ray. I don't want the ray to associate my hand with food.
