there have been squirrels living in my attic for quite some time now and i just saw a mouse in my kitchen, i don't want to hurt them but i want them out of my house. I've seen the ultrasonic pest deterrents that sharper image used to sell and I'm curious if they actually work and if they will cause harm to my non-aquatic pets (a painted turtle, a quaker parrot, and a redfoot tortoise)
are there any other options besides the traps or ultrasonic deterrent?

if u dont want to kill them try the sticky pad things.
if u dont have any qualms about killing them, for the squirlls at least, I suggest the gamo whisper. high powerd air rifle that is (i know u dont want to hurt them but if worse comes to worse) silenced from the factory. not perfectly quite but will knock out some squirells but would kill them.

these work quite well but would highly unrecommend it for humane extermination.

i actually could care less about the squirrels, the main reason i dont want to kill them is the cleanup, there are few things on this earth that smell worse than a dean mouse imo
 
which? the pads? they can be released from them
the air rifle is a beast. a good head shot using gamo's PBA ammo will take them out instantly( i use PBA ammo in my non-gamo air rifle and will not use any thing else. beastly ammo) 25% increased velocity and 25% incressed penetration. it can instantly kill the squirel. i used to hunt squirrels all the time with mine. kill quite a few.

yeah dead mice in ur walls stink. thats why i dont like poison.
the air rifle would drop them(non mice, that would be hard) then you could go bury it in ur back yard!
and if ur not a good shot gamo offers a .22 caliber air rifle that also has an adaptor to fire it like a shotgun!! beast and will kill close range. the reason im suggesting an air rifle is because its less dangerous (some what) than a normal .22 or something similar. u can fire it in ur attic with a good bit less worry
