Humanly killing fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
freezing is extremely painful to fish. fish do not fall asleep like humans do. their cells crystalize causing extreme pain. it is also illegal in some states to freeze fish as it is inhumane. same goes for flushing down the toilet.

Supposidly poring boiling water over them works instantaniously...just what i got told tho...anyone shed some light?

Dropping them in boiling water works on small fish (2 inches or less). I use clove oil to knock them out and then put them in a bag with the clove water into the freezer. Works like a charm. Or a quick chop to the head. I prefer clove oil.

over dose of clove oil... you cant just treat the fish with some meds??? save them and still put in the pond?

I think Nic's Avatar says it all Once ;)

You will find that there are many ways for many people to define "Humane" But generally everone sides on the "Humane" Side that causes themselves less pain.

For me I choose instant.

boiling water also inhumane.

sorry, im not trying to sound like a know-it-all. i just happened to read an article about this 2 days ago. i think i might have found that thread here.

Quick smack for small ones (after clove oil); sever the spine on large ones.

If it makes you feel better, you can give a second (i.e. killing) dose of clove oil after the first brings unconciousness.

If you weren't worried about humanely keeping the fish, then why worry about humanely killing them?

Why are they sick and dying, are they beyond saving?

destroy the brain its now dead
