I have a 700 gallon indoor pond and was wondering how I could get rid of the musty smell or stop the humidity??? its not a bad smell but smells like a HUGE FISH TANK...is there something I could do besides air fresheners and scented candles lol..any secrets of the trade??? i have a ceiling fan circulating the air..Its more of a bother to my wife if anything/.....anyway to bring down the humidity at all?? thanks for all your time!!

Vent to the outside.,., about the only way I know to kill humidity.,.,., vent to the outside and pull dry air in from the rest of the house.,.,.,you can buy all the stuff at any building supply store.,., your gonna need a small fan or 2.,.,12 volt fans., use almost no electricity., can be run nonstop and are dead quiet.,., a 4 inch or so should move the air enough.,,. some kinda tubing., I use aluminum flex tubing for everything like that.,., aluminum doesnt rust.,., its flexible., expandable.,., and also sold in a 4" diameter to match the fans.,., your also going to need some kinda vent cover to cover the opening to the outside of the house.,., a dryer vent works well if your coming out of a wall.,., a roof vent and some flashing if your goin up.,,.., also be sure to cover any outside opening be it in a vent or otherwise with metal screen to keep any critters out.,., dont go cheap.,., rats and mice will chew through plastic in a few minutes.,..,., with everything.,., you should be able to get it done for under $50

You can run dehumidifiers and such.,., but your electricitys going up in smoke.,.,., If you got the room.,., you could try a sand garden or something.,., absorbent media.,.,.,., hang some bags of rice in there or something.,.,lol.,.,., good luck

When my "fishroom" was a spare bedroom in the house... which included a 300 gal indoor pond and a few hundred gallons of glass tanks... I used a dehumidifier to keep the humidity around 40%... It also kept the room at 80*F and I didn't have to run heaters in the tanks anymore...

My fishroom is at 74.1 degrees with 70% humidity:eek:

Makes me wish I never bought this damn gauge:irked:

I think that smell is part of it all but you can but dehumidifiers i have one in my room to stop damp as i have tanks and vivariums in their they work really well.
I wouldn't use an air freshener if i was you some of the stuff might settle on the top of the water or if you have an aerator it may pump it into the tank it can kill all your fish.

Then you are a perfect canidate for a dehumidifier... the temp goes up and the humidity goes down...

dehumidifier ftw!!

the electric bill will go up.. but thats a lot cheaper than having to redo half the house due to moisture damage...

glad i dont have to worry about this were i live. But i would suggest either pulling air to outside with a large bathroom vent fan and dryer vent tube or a dehumidifier.
