If its fairly common to keep sev & gt together, and sev & egjd together then why is it so frowned upon to keep ebjd & gt together? Have many tried and failed or is it that since ebjd aren't as aggressive/tough as jd so people tend to over react and coddle them?

works fine for me, and with flowerhorns.

Ebjd are like a anorexic version of normal Jds, but they still have the same attitude, mine dominates the 2 regular JD's in my community tank.

I believe it is because Sev's are not as aggro and confrontational (most of the time) as JDs/GTs, So you end up with a dominant fish (the GT/ EBJD/ JD) and the sub-domninant fish (Severum). If you try a GT and a EBJD they may both try to be the dominant fish and end up doing damage to each other in the long run.

But it depends on the nature of the JD/GT. In my opinion I think a EBJD and Green Terror would do fine together, given enough room, hiding spot, etc.

I am pretty sure there are a number of members that keep ebjd and GTs together.

Who do you see keeping adult severums and GT's together? You might see a lot of juvies together, but you don't see adults because it generally doesn't work out.

I just remember reading a lot of posts from people saying they have sev with gt but they usually don't give details as to size. Don't remember which sites, but I have also seen profiles listing sev and gt as compatible.

My ebjd has never picked a fight with my sev or nic. My nic starts stuff with the sev daily but the sev doesn't back down and it never amounts to much more than some gill flaring. The nic has twice tried to mess the ebjd, both times the ebjd beat the nic up and down the tank. Not much physical harm except for teeth marks from the nic and ebjd trying to lip lock and the ebjd getting half the nics face in it mouth.

I have got a Adult GT with 6 severums, he is more peaceful than the Sevs.

I think depending upon the personality of each fish it can be done. It may or may not work though, just like with other cichlids.

my cichlids are all aroung 5", thinking I'll let them grow another month or two then add a 2-3" gt. Maybe the gt will accept its place at the bottom of the pecking order without having ambitions of dominance.

How big is your tank? I find GT's tend to get nasty in smaller tanks, so a 55 shared with Severums or anything else is a no-no.
