correct term is nuchal humps (kok refers to FH's) and both males and females get them, they are more prodominant on male fish though.

most midas get them, and they are common in species from the amphilophus genus.

Nuchal hump whether on FH or any other CA/SA is KOK(slang name). They type of hump on a frontossa or a texas cichlid is referred to as cranial hump.

both males and females can get nuchal humps (males tend to be bigger and occur more often) some midas may be selective bred for a large nuchal hump but its mainly in the genes with midas, some dont get as big a hump as another.

if you bought a midas (or midavil) from ure LFS then the chances are it will likely get a decent sized head.

KOK is a crappy FH/hybrid name and using it for pure breds isnt O.K in my opinion. nuchal hump is the correct term and any decent fish keeper in this section calls a nuchal hump a nuchal hump, not a KOK.

Is it called Kok because it swells?:nilly:

Here are some before and after pics of the Midas when breeding.
His Kok swelled down after he was done.
