Cool Bullhead. I love these catfish!! you hand feed him?

I remember as a curious child catching one for the first time. I was amazed how hard they can bite...sharp teeth too.

I caught a tiny one once. About half an inch, and he grew close to that size in about 2 years. Thay can eat till they are almost sphere shaped lol!

They grow sooo fast and Voracious. mine was also wickedly territorial.

Even raising mine from almost a fry it never got that tame :headbang2

Gemeines...Yeah, I can hand feed him. He is very tame, doesn't like to be touched though, sometimes when I clean the tank he swims around my hand (I assume looking for food). I'm always afraid he will brush against it, spaz out and stab me.

CrazyDave, the tank is a 75g.

nice bullhead. i used to have a few I. nebulosus. is that an I.nebulosus or I. natalis? Perhaps i'll have to net a few this summer. Sandtiger i like your avatar, i would consider getting a tatoo of that image.

It's a nubulosus, those are the only ones I can seem to find here but if I travel a bit I can find yellows and I know the blacks are around but I have yet to see one of those.

Thanks on the avatar comment, it would make a sweet tattoo (the thought did occur to me). It's actually the symbol of a local resurant here, "The Stonecate Cafe".

who are his tankmates?

I was keeping my first cichlid setup when I obtained my little bullhead. Honestly I didnt know how things would turn out. The bullhead became the boss.

a large Jack dempsy, firemouth, salvini, and other commons were no match for the Bullhead.

Just a mean ol bull.

Does he bully his tankmates?

he is one big awesome monster.. nice that you had him since he was a baby.:)

Nice looking bullhead. I have three little guys that I found in my own feeder tank a while back:screwy: . They are only about 3" maybe but I can tell they have grown alot since I found them! Can't tell what kind they are yet though...

Tankmates are a largemouth bass, pumpkinseed and green sunfish. He dosen't bother any fish he cannot fit in his mouth.
