I agree with this, Festae when fully matured are some of the most beautiful fish out there. Here is an example.

agreed some of my favorite cichlid ever. buitifull fun and dont get huge. But that all depends on tank size. Becauce. a pair of rtm would be my personal top pick

RTM, Festae, Salvini, Synspilum; all have beautiful colors. I think your wet pet personality will show best with an Oscar or something in the Amphilophus family. I have Trimacs and a Midas/RD and they all show a lot of character. But it all depends on how you are housing them and with what other fish.

agreed. in wet pet terms, Oscars and Amphilophus know and relate with, their owner..

On second thought, so do my Jaguars....

A nice male carpintis would give you the color, size, and personallity you sseem to be looking for. but any amph. will be good or parachromis as well.

Male FESTAES are out of this world, in fact!!!

Males and females in breeding dress are both out of this world. This is one of the rare fish that a female can look just as good or better than the male.

Thanks for all the feedback. I took a second look at the Festae and they can be pretty nice but, I think I've decided to try and keep it down to a 75gal tank. So, my options are a bit more limited and it takes out the Festae and my original idea, the Synspilum. I also want to try to stay away from the RD and Midas cichlids. I'm going to keep looking and hopefully come across something that catches my eye.
