I live in nj apparently we are gonna get pounded by the hurricane. I can't afford a generator so I would like to know what to do if the power goes out for an extended period of time? I've been to 3 stores today looking for battery powered air stones and couldn't find any. How long can fish last without filtration? As far temperature I believe the tanks will drop to about 72-73 without heating. Will the bio bacteria die off without filtration? I own various cichlids, plecos, catfish, loaches.

Have you tried walmart? Look in sporting goods (fishing supplies)

I bought a 1000 watt DC to AC inverter. I hook it to my car battery and run extension cords to my tanks.

Yes thanks I've tried walmart, petsmart, and then a lfs/petsupply warehouse... Unfortunately walmarts in nj are very sloppy and unorganized I guess because "superstores" don't a have stranglehold on the population here like they do in rural areas (everywhere is rural compared to here lol)... I can and will scoop and pour buckets of water all day to make aeration if I have to, but what about the other factors?

This is s great idea, however my garage is used for storage and my car is basically the love of my life lol and so I've already rented a garage for the weekend so it won't get damaged.. Looks like your fish will be fine tho

im gettin worried bout this too. im guessing ill just keep pouring in warm water or have hot water in a bucket and just float the bucket in the tank instead of dumping the water to keep the temp stable all day and night lol what part of jersey u from? im in lawrence and i work at a farmers market and my boss, the farmer, said that the hurricane might mean the end of all agriculture in nj for this year... its gona b bad and im just trying to brace myself and my tanks

if you have any bass fishing tackle shops around your eara they will carry airatiors

K thanks I'll check a couple tackle shops if I have to tomorrow, I'll prob be able to find them at different lfs' tomorrow when I have spare time. Anybody have any info on how the bio bacteria will be affected by extended periods of no filtration? As of now I plan on doing 40% change on all 4 tanks Saturday before the hurricane is supposed to hit, and after Friday I won't feed until the power comes back unless it never goes out... I live in old bridge, right next to new Brunswick and Perth amboy

the 1,000 watt and up would be perfect to keep a tank or more running. Ive ran sumppumps and sawzalls off them. Just hook them to your car battery leave the car running.

Yes look in bait shops they sell the battery powered aereators for minnow buckets. Too bad you aren't near me I have a few you could have. Good Luck and don't feed until power comes back on if it does get knocked out.
