My bichir developed a slight tinge of red in his side about a week ago. Now it developed into what looks like a red sore or bruise. Can anyone tell me what this is and how best to treat it? :confused:

what kind of tankmates does it have? could be a pleco or syno injury. probably the best way to treat is to keep the water very clean. you can add some salt or melafix/pimafix to help it from getting fungus.
 
There are no tank makes except for an arowana half it's size who has only been with him for a few days during a tank transfer and they leave each other alone. Also the water is kept very clean. Whenever I change the water I always add salt with prime. That's why it is so odd this happened to him and I can't figure it out.
 
the scales fell off. their scales are real tough, that must be a real nasty bite. other side any bite marks? add melafix will help. if gets worse adding some antibiotics powder on the wound will help greatly :)
 
Could be internal hemorrhaging? Was pressure applied to the area recently? Maybe he got stuck between the tank bottom and a rock or other piece of decor?
 
i don't think the scales fell off. i think i can still see the scales. But it seems some of the outer layer is gone or something, and yeah it also looks like hemorrhage. do you have any decor in the tank?
 
nope, nothing besides some gravel to cover the undergravel filter and a small rock that he likes to perch on. Weird huh??

Is he still eating?

do you clean your ug filter? I threw mine out because it was a pain to clean and it kept all the waste in the tank. My water just looked clean. LOL
Switched to canisters and they work much better.
