if he was off duty what was he doing with a gun anyway? over here police have no right to exercise any of their authority if they're off duty.

Police in the US have the ability to carry off duty should they wish. They are not forced to act should something happen close to them but many will jump into action if they are able and armed to stop a crime even while off duty.

If they get involved it is more paperwork but they are still able to act even if not currently on duty.

Hell if a cop wants they could carry into an airport so long as they let the security know and swap out to different type of rounds which I forget the name of off the top of my head...

i work in Anne Arundel(were this happend)

from what i can see and heard this was acting WAY too quickly. the dogs started to get rough with each other, the cop told the guy to get his dog and before he could take a step to get it pulled and shot the dog. I can try to keep yall updated, or anyone in that area as well could help

I'm not saying that the officer is absolutely unequivocally 100% wrong in this situation.

All I said is that we DON'T know the specifics of the situation, but from what I read into it, it seems more likely that the officer acted too quickly to pull a gun in a public situation.

With out being there it's hard to say, but my belief is that the shooting was competely unnecessary. While I may get nervous if a dog gets boisterous around my dog I highly doubt a pet would come off as a killing machine going amuck that I feared for my life and felt compelled to shoot it. Now what's funny is if the gentleman would have pulled his gun and another officer off duty saw him and thought he was a threat and shot him dead. I bet that would completely change some people's opinion about shooting at a PRESUMED threat. A officer supposed to use a gun as a last resort they're supposed to be trained to handle high tension situations better than a common citizen. Pulling a gun so quickly and using it show's poor judgement on his part, maybe it would be semi-understandable if it was just a regular pedestrian with a liscense to carry, but I believe a officer should have more composure than that.

^cop now days seem to love shooting dogs.

Not really much info on the story, but judging from my experience with huskies, it sounds like the husky was just trying to play. They can get pretty rough when they're playing, and they may bite you if you try to intervene. Going by that, the cop acted way too fast. However, there's really not enough info for sure.
