<So minnows that are kept by the thousands in dirty unfiltered "bait" tubs are healthier than goldfish???>
and goldfish aren't kept in filthy conditions? i'd have to agree with Z trip on this one, goldfish are horrible feeders and are rarely well taken care of before feeding. i may be wrong but in the wild niles will eat fish, as long as they're healthy then i don't see anything wrong with offering fish along with insects and mice.

I never said they werent. I was just wondering what makes minnows "healthier" than goldfish. So since Ztrip couldnt answer the question maybe you can.

As for a Niles captive diet, the article I copied pretty much lays it out.

Minnows are taken bad care of aswell but not as bad..... They have some what more nutrition too. Now in Africa, their is the wet and the dry season. In the dry season, water holes dry up and fish are left stranded. This is when I think Niles would eat fish.

You think? Care to support that thought with some evidence?

Not saying you're wrong, but what is the significance of this thought? We all knew they naturally eat fish. Does it matter when?

Nile monitors can be found in the jungles... Not everywhere in Africa have a dry season.

Also they live along the banks of the NILE RIVER. The NILE RIVER doesnt ever dry up.
