Hybrid C/A not eating and sick

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear that. Well if you ever see it again you'll know what to do. It happens unfortunatly.

if he's lost apetite you should try bloodworms. I've raised a lot of EBJD's and when they get sick, "THEY GET SICK", and won't eat anything but bloodworms for some reason, which was the only thing I could ever get them to eat. I suggest some melafix and that parasite medicine by tetra that they sell in PETSMART "$4,99" together. It's got metronidazole in it and it has saved my fish a few times in different occasions. If you have cash to spend try also maracyn one and two together with that. I personally dump all the meds in a 10 gallon bucket and put 2 cubes of bloodworms so that they absorb the meds and becomes medicated food. Temperature should be at around 76 to 78. Regardless of what the meds say do a water change after 48 hours. and treat again if needed. Fish release an astounding amount of waste while healing and letting the water keep all those chemicals for more than 2 days could mess up his recovery. Fresh new water also works as a remedy as your dumping out pathogens present in the old water as well as ammonia and harmfull gases.Good Luck and Let us know of his progress..

So he passed last night after a great fight with whatever was taking him down. We had him for over 4 years and purchased our 125 because he kept growing (about 10.5 inches) bigger and bigger. He was a "wet pet" so now I have an empty tank. It's weird to think one can be attached to a fish but we are. He'll be missed. Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

Rip.

tom was right in everything!

The trick to brake the speed of bacterial infections is cold water.

I have had one die exactly like yours.

I had one with the same, added a lot of salt and epsom salt and turned his thermo completely off immediately.

Was cured in 3 days.

Sorry for your loss. That guy was a beast.

This is Columnaris aka Flexibacter, Mouth-Rot/fungas ect.

Do not increase the temperature!

This is one instance where you want to drop the temp to around 74-75F. This bacteria grows poorly below 76F
Do a large 75% water change and gravel vacuming. Kanacyn (kanamycin) is a great choice or use both Maracyn and Maracyn 2 together but they must be used together. This will kill your fish if you don't act quickly. Treat the whole tank. Follow the directions on any medication you use. These will kill your bio-filter so you must do frequent water changes while treating and afterwards till they reestablish.

Your fish can go a few weeks without eating, treatment is key here.

Oops sorry! Don't raise the temperature:eek:
