Hybrid Lizard! Question of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What about a green anole/brown anole hybrid.

I don't believe that such a hybrid is possible despite the fact that they are of the same genus. Apparently there have been documented matings between the two species, and the eggs have all been infertile.

Yeah, when you talk about the genetic difference between two even seemingly closely related species, it's really hard to tell how similar or different they actually are without looking at the DNA itself. Classifications of species are changing all the time and have been historically based on many different, often incorrect, criteria. Even today, there really isn't a set definition of a "species" that fits all cases. Even if the genetic similarity is there, there are also many other barriers to natural hybridization be they geographical, behavioral, anatomical and so on.

Very true.

Also, quite simply, leopard geckos lay eggs. Blue tongue skinks give live birth.

I want to see a Komodo Dragon crossed with a Green Basilisk... LOL A green Komodo Dragon with crests that can run across water... I would pay big bucks for that!

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Let me guess: It would be created in a lab by a scientist that means well, but the lizard(s) eat him, escape to terrorize the local town/resort/island, and is/are destroyed by a local scientist/group of teens/townspeople then everyone lives happily ever after even though the lizards reproduced and a pair of their offspring survived the extermination of the rest of their kind. And, *BOOM*, there you have a SyFy Original Movie, Komodolisk Terror! Maybe I should develop it more and send it to them... :grinno: Sorry, I couldn't resist.

LOL! Totally saw that one coming, I was placing guesses who it would be..

This time when u elaborate on it. because you no we all wana no why it couldnt happen. Copy and save in a text doc so u dont have to retype it next time someone asks.
Me personaly ide like to no why a green basalik lizard and a brown basalik lizard couldnt make a hybrid. Atleast thats what i been told on other sites.
Actually a brown (Basiliscus basiliscus) X green (Basiliscus plumifrons) not only can be made but has already been acomplished. If you want to know the woule story read the bibliographic references in the Reptilia guide to green basilisks. And thats why they say its not a good idea to keep more then one species of basilisk per enclosure.

It could never work because you are taking two entirely different Families (Scincidae and Eublepharidae) and crossing them. The two families split tens of millions of years ago so they're not closely related.
Hey Vicious, hows going on? :)
Leopard geckos are Geckonidae before Eupleubaridae. Like you said THERE IS NOT A CHANCE THEY WILL HIBRIDIZE! Actually these 2 lineages are separeted not teens but almost 2 hundreds of million years apart.

The longest separeted lineages to produce hibrid I know of and actually is fertile is Chelonia mydas X Caretta caretta. If Im not mistaken they have split apart at least 40 MYA.

You should, otherwise they'll just stumble across it here, we'll all see it on TV and you'll get none of the credit lol
