I'm mostly a cichlid keeper and never kept rays but I wanted to know how everyone feels about hybrids. With central american cichlids its a very controversial topic and with african rift lake cichlids just about everyone is against making them. So what are your thoughts on ray hybrids?

Ray hybrids can be beautiful. I don't think there is nearly as much of a controversy over ray hybrids as there is over cichlids. In fact, ray keepers will purposely cross breed rays. One of the rarest rays, the snow leopard, is a hybrid (of what I'm not sure)

This has been talked about on here before. Some people like it some people hate it. But does any of that matter? Plain and simple, NO.

The biggest thing with this topic is it will only lead to one thing...an argument.

says who?

i like the look of a lot of some hybrids but i think a lot of people are getting carried away and breeders don't want to share what mix they are so we are loosing track of what they even consist of. the future of rays is not looking good

+1 on this, they have there place as a lot of them are very pretty, my biggest issue with them is when they are misrepresented as pure

@strollo i do not believe the snow leopard is a hybrid

Agree with that, im not saying I don't agree with hybrids in any way and sum look fantastic but we really should keep track of what is breeding with what. I think half the time they keep it secret to keep the prices high, example if you had a a pearl crossed with a motoro and it came out with fantastic markings people would say im not paying high price for a motoro but saying its a "secret" sounds a bit more exotic. That's just my take on it.

I prefer remain in the pure bred rays but i suppose if something really caught my eye and it was hybrid i would probably snatch it up.
